Photored – Final Meeting, Horten in Norway, February 14-16, 2024

On February 14-16, the last scientific symposium of the PhotoRed project, led by prof. Urszula Narkiewicz, was held in Horten, Norway.
Simultaneously, it was the first symposium of the Green-3 project, led by prof. Iwona Pełech.
Project contractors from the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering at ZUT in Szczecin met with partners from the University of South-Eastern Norway, Sintef Industry and Sintef Ocean.
The closing PhotoRed project was summarized and further research plans in the Green-3 project were discussed.
Professor Kaiying Wang made it possible for symposium participants to take a tour of the Vestfold University Campus.

Scientist of the Future 2023 award for prof. Urszula Narkiewicz. October 20, 2023 in Uniejów

Prof. Urszula Narkiewicz received the Scientist of the Future 2023 award in the category: Woman of science who changes the world for implementing the research project entitled "Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide - PhotoRed" and a positive approach to disseminating the current results of projects among the entire society.
Four researchers from the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering were among the winners of the 8th Edition of the Intelligent Development Forum Awards.
The awards were presented during the Intelligent Development Forum Awards Gala on Friday, October 20, 2023 in Uniejów.

PhotoRed – III Polish-Norwegian Scientific Symposium, May 24-25, 2023

On May 24-25, 2023, in the historic neo-baroque palace in Wiejce, as part of the PhotoRed project, led by prof. dr hab. Eng. Urszula Narkiewicz, the Third Polish-Norwegian Scientific Symposium was held.The meeting was attended by project participants working at the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Environmental Engineering at WTiICh ZUT in Szczecin and partners from Norway: employees of the University of South-Eastern Norway, SINTEF Industry and SINTEF Ocean. Speakers from both countries presented the results of research conducted so far. On the first day of the symposium, the tasks performed at our university were discussed, on the second day we discussed the tasks on the part of the Norwegian partners.As part of the meeting, we visited the palace complex with a park and farm, the picturesque banks of the Warta River and a local attraction - a hunting shooting range in Międzchód.

PhotoRed project presented during the Scandinavian Picnic, Jasne Błonia, May 12, 2023

As part of the 9th edition of the Scandinavian Days in Szczecin, during the Scandinavian Picnic at Jasne Błonia, young scientists participating in the PhotoRed project told the citizens of Szczecin about their research: they acquainted Szczecinians with the subject of capturing and processing of carbon dioxide, by presenting chemical demonstrations and a quiz, in which good answers could win gadgets advertising the PhotoRED project, which may convince many people to study at our University.

An invention concerning the production of hydrogen and CO2 reduction in the process of photocatalysis with the use of zinc oxide.

At the International Warsaw Invention Exhibition IWIS, on October 18, 2022, the research team of the Polish-Norwegian PhotoRed project presented an invention on the production of hydrogen and CO2 reduction in the photocatalysis process. Students and PhD students - mgr inż. Katarzyna Ćmielewska, inż. Adrianna Michalska, inż. Karolina Pawłowska and mgr inż. Konrad Sobczuk, under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Urszula Narkiewicz and prof. dr hab. Antoni W. Morawski prepared a poster, a presentation and a film.
  


Prof. Kamila Kočí gave a lecture entitled "Photocatalytic CO2 reduction" on January 11, 2023

Prof. Kamila Kočí from the Institute of Environmental Technology CEET, VŠB – the Technical University of Ostrava presented a paper titled "Photocatalytic CO2 reduction" during the scientific meeting of the Szczecin Branch of the Polish Chemical Society.
The lecture took place on January 11, 2023, in the "Old Chemistry" building, WTiICH ZUT, in room no. 2. dedicated to prof. Kazimierz Kałucki.
Prof. Kamila Kočí from the Czech Republic is a renowned scientist in the field of photocatalysis, especially the photocatalytic reduction of CO2. The meeting attracted a lot of attention, including members of the team implementing the project "Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide - PhotoRed" led by prof. Urszula Narkiewicz.

Forum Uczelniane, No. 3 (55) 2022, page 23 - R&D Impact award for PhotoRed project

The University Forum quarterly, the university magazine of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, published information about the awarding of the R&D Impact award to the team of prof. Urszula Narkiewicz for the implementation and popularization of the research project entitled "Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide - PhotoRed". The project is carried out by a team consisting of groups of researchers from the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Environmental Engineering of ZUT and the University of Southeast Norway, SINTEF Industry and SINTEF Ocean.
On behalf of the research team of the "PhotoRed" project, the award was received by dr hab. inż. Iwona Pelech, prof. ZUT, manager of the 1st research task „Basic calculations and preparation”.

PhotoRed – 2nd Polish Norwegian Scientific Symposium, October 18-21, 2022

On October 19th and 20th 2022 in the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Environment Engineering, as part of the PhotoRed project, led by prof. Urszula Narkiewicz, PhotoRed – 2nd Polish Norwegian Scientific Symposium was held.
Our guests were project partners from University of South-Eastern Norway, SINTEF Industry, and SINTEF Ocean, Norway. On the sessions, speakers from both countries presented the results of their research.
On the first day of the symposium, the tasks performed at our University were discussed. We presented the results of research on the preparation and characterization of photocatalysts, and the processes of photocatalytic reduction of CO2 with synthesized materials.
We spent the second day in the beautiful surroundings of the Turnau Vineyard in Baniewice, where we discussed the workpackages which are carried out in Norway, including photoelectrochemical processes with the use of materials prepared at our department or their impact on the natural environment.
As a part of the meeting, we also visited undergrounds of Szczecin, where tourist routes are located in the largest civil shelter in Poland.
We would like to thank our partners from Norway for visiting us and we look forward to the next meeting!

International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS 2022, October 18, 2022

International Warsaw Invention Show is a great opportunity to present the scientific achievements of the research team in the international arena. It was attended by the participants of the Polish-Norwegian project PhotoRed. They presented the invention concerning the production of hydrogen and the reduction of CO2 in the photocatalytic process.
This year, IWIS 2022 takes place online, and we are pleased to announce that the virtual stand prepared by our creative students and PhD students has won the GOLD MEDAL!

At our stand, you can watch a video in which prof. Antoni W. Morawski will tell you interesting things about photocatalysis with the use of zinc oxide. We also invite you to see the presentation, which you will find at the stand as well.
The virtual stand was prepared by: mgr inż. Katarzyna Ćmielewska, inż. Adrianna Michalska, inż. Karolina Pawłowska, and mgr inż. Konrad Sobczuk. It was supervised by our professors – prof. Urszula Narkiewicz and prof. Antoni W. Morawski.

R&D Impact 2022 Awards Gala at Olivia Business Center in Gdańsk, May 20, 2022

In the Gdańsk business center - Olivia Business Center, the R&D Impact awards were awarded to scietists whose research and projects have a positive impact on the economy and society.
Among the 34 winners from Polish research centers, there was prof. dr hab. Urszula Narkiewicz and her team implementing the project entitled "Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide - PhotoRed".
The aim of the project is to develop an innovative technology for capturing carbon dioxide from flue gases and for its further use.
The project is carried out by a team consisting of researchers from the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Environmental Engineering ZUT and from the University of Southeast Norway, SINTEF Industry and SINTEF Ocean.

Polish-Norwegian Scientific Symposium

Polish-Norwegian Scientific Symposium took place on 12th-13th May in the frame of the 8th edition of Scandinavian Days. The Symposium was dedicated to the results of the PhotoRed project ("Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide"). The leader of the project is West Pomeranian University in Szczecin and the partners in Norway are SINTEF and University of South-East Norway.
The symposium was held in the hospitable interiors of the Scandinavian House at Monte Cassino street in Szczecin, where very friendly and intimate conditions for the presentations, discussions and exchange of ideas have been created.
During the symposium the issues related to the greenhouse effect, the capture of carbon dioxide and its conversion into useful products have been discussed. As a part of the meeting, the Norwegian partners also visited laboratories at the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Environmental Engineering, where the project is being carried out.

Professor Antoni Waldemar Morawski received the Prof. Kazimierz Kałucki Medal of the Congress of Chemical Technology

On May 11-14, 2022, the 10th Congress of Chemical Technology was held in Wrocław.
During the Congress, professor Antoni Waldemar Morawski received the Prof. Kazimierz Kałucki Medal of the Congress of Chemical Technology in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of chemical technology and industrial implementations of innovative chemical products and processes.
Professor Antoni W.  Morawski delivered a plenary lecture „Advances in technologies with the participation of photocatalytic nano-TiO2” and showed a poster „Effective photocatalytic method of obtaining green ammonia from gaseous nitrogen and water vapor saturated with carbon dioxide”
Prof. Morawski presented the advances in technologies involving titanium dioxide nanoparticles as a photocatalyst, after its additional modification with nitrogen, carbon / graphene and silicon. He also presented the possibilities of its practical use in technological processes and environmental protection.
The presented research was funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism / Norwegian Financial Mechanism for 2014-2021 through the National Center for Research and Development under the grant No. NOR / POLNORCCS / PhotoRed / 0007 / 2019-00.

A reportage about the PhotoRed project was presented by Radek Brzózka in the TV Polonia program "Stacja Innowacja", in a series showing Polish inventors working at universities, companies and research institutions.

The Polish Prize of the Smart Growth 2021. May 2021

The PhotoRed research team received a nomination to the Polish Prize of the Smart Growth 2021 in the category of Innovative technologies and breakthrough research.

The first diploma thesis implemented within the PhotoRed project

The first diploma thesis implemented within the PhotoRed project was defended in February 2021 - it was an engineer diploma of Olivia Koperska, entitled "SYNTHESIS AND MODIFICATION OF MICROPOROUS CARBON SPHERES " and performed under the supervision of prof.Iwona Pełech.

The working project meeting, 10th February 2021

Date: 10th February 2021,  12.00-14.15, on-line using MS Teams platform.
Participants: all the project executors from ZUT.
During the meeting:
·         Prof. Iwona Pełech presented a detailed report from the preparation of photocataysts’ samples performed within WP1. The samples were also initially characterised.
·         Dr Chaoqun Cheng z USN sent a report on the preliminary DFT calculations of the Ti/TiO2 system, conducted within WP1.
·         Msc Katarzyna Ćmielewska, Dr Adam Czyżewski and dr Marcin Gano presented the recent progress in the assembling of the photocatalytic set-up and in the measurement procedure.


The Polish-Norwegian working project meeting, 15th December 2020

Date: 15th December 2020,  15.30-17.30, on-line using MS Teams platform.
Participants: all the project executors from Norway and from ZUT.
During the meeting:
·         Prof. Iwona Pełech presented progress reached within WP1.
·         Dr Chaoqun Cheng from USN presented preliminary results of computer modeling  conducted also within WP1.
·         Dr Adam Czyżewski presented preliminary achievements in the construction of the apparatus set-up for photocatalytic measurements. He showed the schema of the installation and the movie from the photocatalytic laboratory.

Kick-off, September 9, 2020

On September 9, 2020, from 15:00 to 16:00, the first meeting took place - a teleconference of the participants of the project "Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical carbon dioxide reduction" (PhotoRED).


Prof. Urszula Narkiewicz gave a presentation in which she discussed the principles of future cooperation, the scheme and schedule of tasks.
